ABOUT US
From concept to community hub: how the NSTC came to life.
The Vision
Creating a world-class home for Australian snowsports.
Snow Australia has long held a vision for a National Snowsports Training Centre (NSTC) that mirrors the best international practices and facilities supporting elite and emerging athletes. In July 2017, the concept was formally pitched to the NSW Government. Just six years later, in July 2023, that vision was brought to life.
Thanks to a $12.8 million investment, the NSTC now provides critical support for Olympic and Paralympic athletes, emerging talent, and the broader snowsports community across the country.

The Benefactor
The National Snowsports Training Centre proudly acknowledges the generosity of major benefactor John Hancock, whose support was instrumental in bringing the NSTC and in particular the John Langley Hancock Building to life.
His financial contribution provided the vital balance of funding needed to transform the vision of a world-class training facility in Jindabyne into reality. Naming the building in his honour is a testament to the lasting impact of his belief in the project and his commitment to ensuring Australia’s athletes have access to the best facilities in the world.
From grassroots Interschools competitors to World Champions and Olympic medallists, all who train within the centre benefit from his generosity, whether they realise it now or in the years to come. His contribution will continue to shape the future of Australian snowsports, leaving a legacy that inspires current athletes while empowering generations to come.

The Facilities
Built for performance. Shared with the community.
The NSTC is made up of two core elements: the NSTC Park and the John Langley Hancock (JLH) Building.
The NSTC Park features a large High Performance airbag and a smaller Development airbag. It has quickly become the national centre for Park & Pipe training and attracts elite athletes from Australia and overseas. Importantly, the entire athlete pathway has access to the Park, from grassroots participants to top-tier professionals.
The JLH Building includes high-performance gym and recovery areas, a learning hub, medical and sports science facilities, coach spaces and more. It supports both winter and summer sports teams and is also open to the wider community through programs like Community Acro.
The Funding Story
A bold vision supported by partnership and generosity.
NSTC was made possible through a powerful combination of government funding, community support, and private philanthropy. Key contributions include:
$6.4M from the NSW Government
$3.3M from additional NSW Government grants
A significant private donation from John & Gemma Hancock
$344K from the Australian Institute of Sport
$150K from NSWIS
$1.5M from fundraising and donations
Snow Australia also committed over $1M and established the Snow Australia Future Fund to back the project. The result: a fully operational, state-of-the-art facility now central to Australia’s snowsports future.
